In the beginning...

True confessions of a thirty-something married girl...I am a blogging virgin!!! Okay, now that we have established that tidbit of information I can move on...

So, I asked myself, "What do bloggers do?" The obvious answer is, "They blog!"

A little about myself:

I am a former Miss Georgia and Miss America contestant. I am a 5'10, 120 lbs, blonde bombshell that just woke up from a dream.

Seriously though, the closest I every came to a beauty contestant was in 1994 when someone erroneously placed my name on the Senior Homecoming Court list and in 1995 when I represented the Panhellenic Council in Homecoming at LC.

I am still legally listed as 5'0", 165 lbs on my driver's license, but who really tells the truth on those things.

After graduating from LaGrange College, I began my teaching career in Ringgold, Georgia. I taught fifth grade at Ringgold Elementary School, but had to leave town when I ended my ten-year relationship with my high school/college boyfriend/fiancee...yes, I kept the ring.

I moved to Gainesville, Georgia and continued my teaching career. I taught second, fourth and fifth grade at Chestatee Elementary School. This time I left town, but it was with a husband...yes, ladies and gentlemen, at the time he was "gainfully employed" and had just inherited his uncle's estate. The estate is a 1970's model single-wide trailer on a 1.5 acre tract of land in Dawson County.

I used to joke that if I ever got married, it would be someone I met after hours at school...I was a teacher, he was a custodian. It was love at first cruise down the hallway to see which teacher had a "Ms." in front of her name. We got married on June 10, 2006. My husband was "home-grown" in Dawson County, Georgia. For those that shop...Dawsonville is known for its Premium Outlet Mall. I inherited a soon-to-be 16 year-old step-daughter whom I have known longer than her father...I taught her friends in the fifth grade. My little sister was my maid of honor...she was also my little brother's best man. My sister-in-law, step-daughter, neice, and best friend were the rest of my bridal party. My father conducted the ceremony...it was beautiful because I planned it that way.

We moved to back to Ringgold after the honeymoon...the ex- has moved on to the bright lights of the big city-ATL. I taught fourth grade at Eastside Elementary School. It was a wonderful opportunity to teach inner-city Hispanic students in "ghetto-fabulous" downtown Dalton.

We moved back to Dawsonville to sell "his inheritance." I lived in Athens with my parents, while we tried to sell our land in Dawsonville.I had the wonderful opportunity of teaching inner-city African American students in "ghetto-fabulous" downtown Covington, Georgia.

Well, those of you looking to make an investment missed out on the opportunity. The husband sold the land and now we are homeless. We had to make some decisions about where to live...Why is it we spend our teenage years trying to act like adults and our adult years trying to act like teenagers again??? The husband bought a 1994 27' Itasca Sunrise mobile home. Drew and Sunshine's grandfather let us park it at his church in Monroe, Georgia. However, we sold the mobile home and upgraded to a 2001 36' Dutchman travel trailer. Drew and Sunshine's grandfather let us park it at his church until we moved it to Cleveland, Georgia at the end of the school year.

We lived at Leisure Acres Campground...it sounds so Florida retirement homeish. However, we had a swimming pool and jacuzzi, bath house, laundromat, pavillion, 2.5 acre lake, and propane fuel center. We were conveniently located in site #62, which featured a creek behind our lot. Everyone was welcome to visit and to the few that did, we appreciated our time together. Profit Smoky Night, our fearless cat, set out for the "uncharted" territory of the creek bank. We were five miles south of downtown Cleveland and a hop, skip, and a jump from the famous home of those cute little tattooed dolls...Cabbage Patch Kids. We were thinking about adoption...hahaha!

I got a teaching gig, we sold the camper, and moved to a yuppie community!!! Where do I start??? I accepted a teaching position at Rebecca Minor Elementary School in Lilburn, Georgia. I started out teaching Vocabulary, but moved to Fourth Grade the seventh week of school. I teach at a Title I school with a diverse demographic population. I survived my first year of teaching with the encouragement of several friends...you know who you are! I am going back for another year in August!!!

I will be completing my ESOL endorsement in three weeks, assuming I pass my ESOL Summer School Intership! I will be teaching 16 second-fifth graders that are limited in their English proficiency.

We moved to an apartment in Suwanee on my birthday! For once we have a home that does not turn mobile with the flip of an ignition switch!!! Since it is Suwanee, we could only afford a one bedroom/one bathroom apartment. We are about to embark on signing a lease for our second year...for once we have been stable for almost a year! We are within an hour drive of our family...which is close enough!!! Life is looking up!!!

Keep checking back as I endure more moment sitting on the couch watching television and Facebooking...
